Our house is hundreds of years old and its unusual footprint and various ceiling styles lead us to believe it is made up of 2 smaller houses. We believe that at one time the bottom floor was home to the farm animals and the humans lived upstairs. The house was purchased in the 1980’s by a Swiss couple as a ruin and was lovingly restored. We have continued that restoration in the same vein. The worn gates you will see around the village give no indication of the beauty, creativity and the craftsmanship that is behind them.
Behind the gate, enjoy the privacy of our courtyard with an outdoor dining, sitting area and small pool. Imagine returning after a day of touring or kayaking to quiet, peace and relaxation. If the evening is chilly, you can build a fire in the outdoor fireplace. If it’s dinner time, we love nothing better than to eat together in front of the fire and take a late dip in the pool.
We have outfitted our kitchen with everything you need to create simple or lavish meals. The kitchen includes a refrigerator, expresso machine, 3-burner induction stove with oven, double farm sink and a dishwasher. If weather does not permit dining outdoors, you can eat in the kitchen or the adjacent dining area. Behind the kitchen, you will find a utility room equipped with a clothes washer and dryer.
Here we are in the hallway leading from the dining room to the downstairs salon and steps leading to the bedrooms. It is on this hallway table you will find a curated collection of resources for enjoying your stay.
We spend time here reading, visiting with friends and relaxing after a long day with a glass of wine. There is a fireplace, small television (with an Apple TV) and comfortable seating. Adjacent to this room is an office which can be used to do any work while you are here.
During the winter, this fireplace will add to the warmth of the Nest.
At the top of the stairs, you will find another sitting room. This light filled area is a comfortable place for reading, visiting and can also be used if a large family desires an additional sleeping area. A queen-sized air bed with bedding is supplied, if needed.
This hallway leads to the glass bedroom. A second hallway leads to a shared bathroom and the main bedroom with en suite bathroom.
We call this the white bedroom. It is a serene resting space with a queen sized bed, an abundance of storage and a quaint French feel. It also has a ceiling fan with a remote control and local art. Guests staying in this bedroom use the hall bathroom, shared with guests staying in the glass bedroom.
This is the glass bedroom where you will find a comfortable queen sized bed, ceiling fan with remote control, and more local art. There is also an antique bakers rack and a huge armoire for storage. This bedroom has a view of our courtyard.
Here you will find the hall bathroom with a large shower, heated towel rack and ample storage. Usually this bathroom is shared by the guests in the glass and white bedrooms.
This is the main bedroom where you will find a comfortable queen sized bed, ceiling fan with remote control and a view of our courtyard. You will notice the remains of an old fireplace once used for the silk worm industry.
We are very proud of our Harry Potter entrance to the en suite bathroom. In our third bedroom is an en suite bath accessed through a door in a wall of cabinets. This bathroom is equipped with a custom shower and sink of tadelakt, a heated shower rack, toilet and ample storage. The bedroom is a cozy haven with a queen sized bed, ceiling fan with remote, and an unusual architectural detail which was once an old fireplace used in the silkworm industry during the 19th century.
